19 Oct Social Butterfly Costume – DIY
This Halloween we’ve got your last minute costumes covered. Check out all 4 costumes we created from items in your closet here.
The Social Butterfly costume is a clever play on words that I’ve actually been in Halloween’s past. It’s even funnier because I’m not an extrovert but I was also managing the social media accounts for the company when I wore it for our office costume contest. All sorts of punny with this one.
This costume is really quite simple. You can pair the wings and social media necklace with any outfit you’d like. We took our V-Neck T-Shirt in Ivory and paired it with our Raw Hem High Waist Distressed Jeans to keep it simple and classic. For the butterfly side of the costume I bought a pair of butterfly wings at the party store similar to these. Here is how we created the social media aspect of being a social butterfly:
- 1 Long Necklace (something with links or beads to keep the ribbon/rafia in place would be best)
- 1 piece of card stock
- Color printing capabilities
- Hole Punch
We downloaded the social media icons we wanted from a simple Google search and then placed them in a Word document. We resized all of the icons to be the size we needed as well as to make all the icons the same size. Then we printed the icons on a piece of card stock paper in color.
Cut out the icons and hole punch the corner so you can secure them to the necklace. (We didn’t have a single hole punch on hand so we used a 3 hole punch.) TIP: Layout the icons around the necklace before you hole punch them so you can make sure to punch the hole in the correct side of the icon. Our first batch we had to throw away half of the icons because we punched them on the wrong side of the icon to lay correctly on the necklace.
Take small lengths of the ribbon/rafia and tie each icon into the desired place through the holes you just punched in the icons. Trim off any ends that stick out.
Throw on your wings and slip on the social media necklace and you’ve got yourself a Social Butterfly!
